Musical Theater Workshop

Ages 5 - 7

Class Description: In this “junior” version of our regular musical theater class, students will work on group numbers from Broadway shows, learning lyrics, music, choreography, and how to use acting skills to tell the story behind a song. Students should wear clothes and shoes that are easy to move in.

Instructors: Brittany Bosak and Patrick Magill

Duration: Twelve weeks (Eleven class sessions with final presentation on the twelfth)

Musical Theater Workshop

Younger students by permission of instructor

Class Description: Returning and new students with any level of experience will work on the basics of musical theater technique, learning how to bring a song to life, integrating character development, vocal dynamics and movement. Class will work with an accompanist, and material includes solos and group numbers from Broadway shows. Students should wear clothes and shoes that are easy to move in.

The Basics: Acting, Movement & Stage Combat

Ages 8+

Class Description: A fun, energetic exploration of these important skills. Students will work on a variety of activities as they build their foundations of acting technique, use a movement-oriented approach to creating characters, and cover the components of stage combat. All of these skills will complement each other as students apply them to text and improvisational scenes.

Advanced Character Workshop I

Ages 13+

Prerequisites: Acting for the Camera II and/or Summer Arts Camp, or by permission of instructor

Class Description: Explore a number of approaches to developing an interesting, believable character for the stage. This class incorporates aspects of improv, voice, movement, creative writing, research and analysis to help the actor create and maintain a compelling character. Some outside homework will be required! This class is helpful for the actor interested in creating specific characters for plays and for maintaining a character for extended theater runs or for a television series.

Improv

Ages 8 - 11

Class Description: New and returning students will learn how to create characters and bring them to life in this fast paced, spirited class. This script-less form of acting allows actors to use their imaginations and teamwork skills as they play through the situations their characters find themselves in! Also great for building voice and movement skills, and gaining confidence onstage.

Improv

Ages 12 - 17

Class Description: Great for both new and returning students. The class will focus on expanding an actor's imagination, storytelling skills, and ability to develop characters as they use these fundamentals to create characters and scenes. Also great training for Middle School and High School Theater Sports team members!

Acting for the Camera I

Ages 8 +

Younger students by permission of instructor

Class Description: This dynamic class introduces the student actor to basic camera techniques that are applicable to both auditions and working on a real television or film set. They will also learn basic lingo associated with film work. The student will perform commercials, television hosting copy, as well as monologues and scenes from TV shows and films.

Advanced Acting for the Camera

Ages 10 +

Prerequisite: Acting for the Camera I or II or equivalent experience

Class Description: This class builds on the fundamentals introduced in Acting for the Camera I. A rigorous course designed for advanced students, Advanced Acting for the Camera will focus on scene work and monologues for camera while further developing on-camera technique. Students will receive a DVD of their classwork.
